I am a contemporary artist based in the Cotswolds which, with its rolling hills and rich scenery serves as a constant source of inspiration.
I have always had an interest in art, but in 2012 I really began to develop my artistic talent. Transitioning from a supportive parent to pursuing personal artistry, I joined a local drawing class experimenting with mediums like pencil and charcoal exploring texture and form. The drawings were still life but because of the composition became quite surreal and full of symbology. However, in 2018 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and my creativity disappeared. Fortunately, they returned once treatment was complete but in a very different way. Within all aspects of my life, fashion, interiors, colour has always been there so since 2019 I have been exploring colour and texture with acrylic-based media, which offers a rich landscape for artistic expression. By working with a limited palette attention is drawn to subtle nuances of hue and shade allowing for deeper emotional connections in my art.
With the help of some on-line courses I started to create some really powerful paintings full of energy, positivity and most importantly, colour. My new home studio was full of artwork ā what do I do with them all? Hold an exhibition was the answer. In October 2021 I held my debut exhibition at Oxmarket Contemporary in my childhood hometown of Chichester, West Sussex. Spending time in the gallery, interacting with viewers as they wandered around my artwork was invigorating. Sharing my story of how the pieces were inspired and created helped others to relate to the brushstrokes in front of them.
The importance of freedom of expression in my work not only reveals my artistic intent but also invites viewers to engage on a more profound level. Each brushstroke and layer of material encapsulates my thoughts and feelings, creating a dialogue that transcends the visual. As I continue this exploration, I consider how different combinations of colour and texture can influence the overall mood and message of my paintings. The interplay between these elements can lead to new discoveries and insights both for me as the artist, and for you, the viewer.
